Sonic object storage S3 updates

We're excited to announce that Sonic and Sonic NVMe - our high-performance S3-compatible object storage services - have received big compatibility improvements with the AWS S3 tools that you love and use every day ✨
We introduced Sonic as a fast and highly cost-effective drop-in replacement for AWS S3 back in the end of 2022. However, compatibility with the S3 API has been less than ideal. While older tools using the deprecated "path-style" buckets with the older V2 signatures would work, a lot of newer tools could fail. These are build for "virtual-hosted style" buckets, and may use the V2 signatures or the newer V4 signatures. Depending on the combination, these tools would either fail to connect to Sonic S3 endpoints, or would fail in performing operations on buckets. We've been working to provide a solution and, with your help and feedback, Sonic becomes the true drop-in replacement it was built to be.
New S3 API endpoints
Note: Existing Sonic S3 endpoints remain operational and supported. No action is required.
We've approached this update with caution. Many of you have integrated Sonic in your services, products and software, and every change has the potential to break such integrations. To completely avoid this scenario, we're introducing two new S3 endpoints:
👉 s3.eu-central.r-cdn.com
for Sonic's standard tier
👉 s3.nvme.eu-central.r-cdn.com
for Sonic's NVMe tier.
Both of them support virtual-hosted style and the deprecated path-style bucket configurations, as well as older V2 and the current V4 signatures. These new endpoints are now the default shown inside the storage settings of your CDN zones.
No new SDKs, no vendor lock-ins
The AWS S3 API may have meant a lock-in once. Nowadays, every modern storage solution has a S3-compatible layer, and there is a very good reason for that. By making Sonic object storage fully compatible with the tools you use right now, we double on our effort of super fast, S3-compatible, no vendor lock-in approach.
Want to switch away from expensive, clunky storage? Moving to Sonic is dead easy 👌
Want to move away from Sonic? Yes its just as easy + no egress fees 👌
With this update, you can expect to pick your favorite desktop client or toolkit, change the S3 endpoint, access and secret key, and be ready to take off with high-performance object storage, built-in global CDN, and predictable low costs.
