PUSHR CDN is now pushr

In 2016, when I started working on the idea of PUSHR CDN, I envisioned a simple content delivery service that would be accessible to everyone. It would allow small website owners to accelerate their websites, while those heavy on video would benefit from a scalable storage and delivery solution that grows with them. Somewhere in between would be the small business owners and the self-funded startups that need to keep an eye on their budgets. With a less-than-ideal domain name, pushrcdn.com came to life in late 2017 and has since served our users well. Throughout the years we've kept on developing new features and services, including a live streaming platform and Sonic - our durable S3-compatible object storage. Last year we've released Sonic's Quantum tier, a read/write intensive S3-compatible storage for ultra low data access latency. Last week we've introduced our on-the-fly image optimizer with Avif, WebP and MozJPEG support - a successor of our deprecated image manipulation feature - and probably the best image optimizer on the market today. With many amazing new products already on our roadmap, we've realised that we are no longer just a CDN. We're becoming a platform that helps developers build and scale apps, SaaS and video experiences quickly and easily. We've felt we need a new name and a new logo that better reflects where we are heading.

pushr.io

Our new, shorter and easier name with its corresponding short domain extension aligns with our vision of evolving beyond a legacy CDN service. While staying true to our roots and our growing network footprint, we are moving from just offering edge technology towards providing you with amazing managed services that run on the network's edge. With focus on simplicity, "CDN" is no longer part of our name and we've felt that the .io extension suits us better than the more corporate-style .com.

A simple logo

We've wanted the pushr logo to carry our focus on simplicity and approachability, so we've replaced the capital letters with lowercase. We've removed the complex graphic elements and carefully considered a single, simple symbol. It represents everything that our current and upcoming products and services aim to do for you: help you push your ideas to production at scale quickly.

A sneak peek into the roadmap

We're hard at work to empower you to build great things on the web. To achieve this goal we're bringing a multitude of new tools and features to pushr which we're very excited about and hope that you'll love.

• pushr's affiliate program is just around the corner. With benefits that are unique to our industry, we're crafting our partnership program carefully to make sure that everyone can benefit from using and recommending pushr to others. We're putting a strong focus on developers and agencies to allow them to unlock monetization opportunities within existing and new user bases, all with predictable and stable revenue streams.

• A set of new APIs are now in the works to provide developers with complete control over all aspects of our services and features, aligning us with our vision of an API-first platform.

• Managed global SQL databases and authentication are coming to a data center near you later in 2025 to provide you with a blazing fast, secure and durable backend to build great products and services on.

• Sonic event notifications are coming to our S3-compatible storage later in 2025 to empower you with a new level of content processing automation.

• Sonic KV, a Redis®-compatible key-value store and cache will join our suite of blazing fast services. Running on the network edge it will provide you with another layer of app acceleration and unlock real-time, low latency data reads and updates.

• Serverless compute will allow you to execute code without the burden of infrastructure and server management, and will provide the glue to help you orchestrate and make the most of pushr's growing ecosystem of services.

• pushr image optimizer will gain image manipulation support, image filters and will allow you to create image presets for full flexibility and tailor-made user experiences.

• Static site hosting, the product on which we host our own website, will be released later in 2025 allowing you to host websites directly inside Sonic object storage with instant domain resolution, high availability, maximum page speed and perfect SEO scores.

Thank you!

With the overachievement of our Q1 goals so far, I am positive that the vast majority of these services will be released before 2025's end. However, development of complex globally-distributed products over the years have taught me that every 10-minute task could easily turn into a two-week head scratching experience. I want to thank you for being with us both when things worked as they should, and when they did not. In our next post we'll explain what we've done in the past year to improve our development processes and why this resulted in a somewhat quiet 2024 without much announcements.
